“What gets measured gets managed”

Plenty of people will have come across this quote by Peter Drucker.

So it might come as a surprise to hear that according to a recent (soon to be released) survey by Mercer, 93% of companies do not measure the business impact of their work from anywhere policy.

Many companies appear to be in reactive mode and are struggling to deal with the ad hoc nature of the work from anywhere requests coming in, rather than focusing on the strategic impact of their work from anywhere policy in the long-term.

This is especially important now that we’re seeing concrete evidence that flexible work, specifically domestic remote work, can boost revenues.

We’ll be digging into this further in the coming newsletters, providing actionable steps HR and global mobility leaders can take to measure the success (or not) of their work from anywhere policy, so stay tuned.

For now take a look at the next section of this newsletter where we dive further into what made Spotify’s work from anywhere policy a success.

Spotify’s Work From Anywhere Policy: Lessons Learned and Success Stories

We get so many questions from people every week “can you tell me what case studies are available around work from anywhere”.

Time and time again, we point them to companies like Spotify, who are one of the few globally to publish the business impact of their policy (including a 15% reduction in attrition and a boost to diversity and inclusion).

We take a closer look at Spotify’s WFA framework, including their focus on flexibility a focus on inclusivity and developing a broader framework. We also look at some of the lessons learned, such as the balance between synchronous and asynchronous communication as well as the challenges of new joiners.

Time To Recharge The Batteries

I also enjoyed a number of Mecer webinars including a big one for Mercer clients in Asia, as well as the Expatise event on the Pros and Cons of Employers of Record.

Speaking about Employers of Record, I’d highly recommend Pete Tiliakos’ article here where he goes behind the scenes of one of the largest Employers of Record, Deel.  Work From Anywhere also gets a mention here (thank you Pete!).

Searching for Improvements (and Hidden Gems in Bali)

I’m excited to be packing my bags for a 2 week trip to Bali while John and Mel keep the show on the road. I’ll still be keeping an eye on all things work from anywhere, but I have to say I’m really looking forward to heading back to my spiritual home.

These last few weeks have been focusing on making the onboarding process smoother. We’ve redesigned the customer onboarding workshops and built out our internal resources within the FAQ section to make it easier to find answers to all the questions you might run into. It was a surprisingly heavy process that involved us going back over thousands of questions we received about the platform and technical questions around work and hire from anywhere. We are delighted with the feedback thus far.

Our current development focus is building out our client reporting capabilities so that our customers can better assess the nature and impact of their remote work searches and policies. Beyond that we’re eyeing up a revamp of our Hire From Anywhere product over the festive season so watch this space.
