Revolut’s Work From Anywhere Programme: Balancing Flexibility and In-Person Engagement

In today’s work from anywhere deep dive, we’re going to take a look at Revolut, a fast-growing fintech company with over $2bn+ of sales over the last year. Known for its disruptive approach to fintech, the company is equally progressive in workplace flexibility. Through its innovative Work From Anywhere programme, Revolut has crafted a policy that not only supports remote work but redefines how employees balance professional and personal priorities.

However, as Revolut invests in its workforce and physical office spaces, it’s clear the company is also charting a nuanced path that blends flexibility with in-person collaboration.

Revolut’s Work From Anywhere Policy: Summary

Revolut positions itself as a remote-first company, and in practice that translates into a high degree of flexibility in how employees work domestically. Employees are free to choose between working from home or coming into the office, with no fixed in-office requirements imposed at a company-wide level. Office attendance is optional rather than mandated, giving individuals and teams the autonomy to decide how they collaborate on a day-to-day basis.

When it comes to international Work From Anywhere, Revolut takes a more defined and structured approach. Employees are allowed to work from abroad for up to 60 days per year, provided they receive prior approval and choose from a list of pre-approved countries. This places Revolut in the mid-to-upper range of WFA policies, offering meaningful flexibility while still maintaining clear guardrails around compliance, tax, and operational risk.

Taken together, the policy reflects a deliberate balance. Domestically, flexibility is maximised with very few constraints. Internationally, flexibility is still a core part of the offering, but it is clearly bounded and managed. That combination suggests Revolut is aiming to offer a competitive level of freedom to attract talent, while ensuring the programme remains scalable and aligned with the realities of operating in a highly regulated industry like fintech.

Curious how your own company would handle this?

Most teams get stuck the moment an employee asks to work from another country — that’s the exact tax, legal, and immigration risk Work From Anywhere checks in under 60 seconds.

Revolut’s Work From Anywhere Policy

For its wider remote work approach, Revolut describes itself as a remote-first company.

“Revolut allows its employees to select quite freely from where they want to work. You can choose if you want to work from the office, or from home. You can come to the office whenever you want, but you don’t have to. Although I’d have to admit my favourite option is the official work -from-abroad policy. Each employee (with prior HR permission) is allowed to work for up to 60 days from another pre-approved country.”

This quote above from Karolina Gruszczyk in Revolut’s blog on How Working Abroad Can Boost Your Wellbeing gives helpful context for the Revolut broader work from anywhere policy.

Revolut’s approach to flexibility clearly extends beyond standard remote work arrangements. At its core, the Work From Anywhere programme allows employees to choose how and where they work, but within clearly defined guardrails, day limits and only once approval from HR has been received.

Benchmarking Work From Anywhere Policies In Fintech

Benchmark comparison of work from anywhere policies in fintech.

When we look at Revolut’s 60 day work from anywhere policy, on the surface, it would appear to be quite generous, certainly compared to traditional banks who tend to be quite conservative (partly due to the heavy regulation and focus on in-office presence).

However you might be surprised to know that your work from anywhere policy is only as good as what your competitors are doing, and companies like Wise offer up to 90 days work from anywhere.  Still, a 60 day policy should be more than sufficient for most companies to attract talent, and from what we tend to see, the benefits of moving from 60 to 90 days for many companies are outweighed by the downsides from a risk and compliance perspective.

Saying that, we also see many companies that have a 30 day work from anywhere policy entertain exceptions on a regular basis, for example in special family circumstances or if there is a well designed visa and right to work option available, which is often the case with a well designed digital nomad visa.

Balancing Remote Work Flexibility and Office Investment

Despite its remote-first identity, Revolut is also making bold moves to enhance its office presence. In a significant development, the company recently signed a 10-year lease for 113,000 square feet of office space in the YY London building in Canary Wharf, marking a 40% expansion of its London office footprint.

Set to open in 2025, the new space reflects a dual strategy: maintaining a permanent flexible working policy while providing a hub for product launches, workshops, team-building activities, and other events. Revolut appears to be betting on an office environment that inspires creativity and collaboration rather than enforcing mandatory attendance.

This investment comes alongside the company’s plans to grow its workforce by 40% in 2024, aiming to expand from 8,000 employees to 11,500 by the end of the year. The enhanced office amenities – including cycle parks, restaurants, and an outdoor terrace – are part of a strategy to attract top talent in a highly competitive market.

Challenges in the Culture: High Pressure and Turnover

Revolut’s culture is undeniably ambitious, characterized by high expectations and a focus on rapid delivery. This intense environment has drawn criticism, as reflected in its somewhat mixed Glassdoor ratings. Reviews frequently mention long hours, high pressure, and a lack of work-life balance as pain points for employees.  Moreover, data from employee turnover platforms highlights a reasonably high attrition rate at Revolut. Such churn can indicate a workplace culture that, while high-performing, can also be unsustainable for many. In this context, Revolut’s WFA policy could possibly be seen as a deliberate counterbalance – providing employees with a mechanism to recharge, manage stress, and work in environments that best support their productivity and well-being.

The Human Side of Remote Work Flexibility

Revolut’s Work From Anywhere programme isn’t just a logistical innovation; it’s a potential antidote to workplace stress. Employees like Karolina Gruszczyk in the article above, who spent a month in Sardinia combining work with her passion for climbing, showcase how the policy empowers team members to lead fulfilling lives without compromising productivity.

The flexibility to work from locations of their choosing – whether close to family, amidst nature, or in culturally inspiring settings – offers employees a chance to reset and rejuvenate. This can be especially valuable in a high-pressure culture, enabling employees to maintain performance while safeguarding their mental health and personal fulfillment.

Working across borders is where the compliance risk lives — permanent establishment, tax residency, right-to-work, and social security all come into play. See the full breakdown in our guide to approving international remote work compliantly.

Revolut and the Future of Work

Revolut’s Work From Anywhere programme and its investment in innovative office spaces highlight the company’s holistic approach to modern work. Rather than choosing between remote work and in-office engagement, Revolut is redefining flexibility as a spectrum – one that adapts to the diverse needs of its workforce.

As Revolut continues its ambitious growth plans, the company offers a glimpse into the future of work. By prioritizing both flexibility and collaboration, Revolut is setting a new standard for how organizations can empower employees while fostering innovation, connection, and long-term success. .

For professionals seeking an environment where ambition meets autonomy, Revolut is clearly creating a workplace where both have an opportunity to thrive.  The fact Revolut has 500 people applying for every job is one data point that tells you there is clearly a demand for what they are offering.

Whether it is for everyone is another matter, but for high performers who want a fast-paced, high growth environment and who also value international remote work flexibility, it might be exactly what some of them are looking for.
