What Is ETIAS Visa?

The European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) is a new entry requirement for visa-exempt travellers visiting countries in the Schengen Area. It is not a work visa, but a pre-authorisation system designed to strengthen border security and improve immigration control across the European Union.

From 2025, travellers from countries that currently do not require a visa to enter Europe, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia, will need to obtain ETIAS approval before their trip. This requirement applies even for short-term visits for tourism or business.

For remote workers, it is important to understand that ETIAS does not allow you to work legally in Europe. Even with approval, you must still comply with the visa and employment laws of the country you plan to work from. ETIAS only grants permission to enter the Schengen Area for a limited stay, not to carry out remote work or take up employment.
